About Sweetwater County Museum

The Sweetwater County Museum, established in 1967 and located in a beautifully renovated 1930 post office building in southwestern Wyoming, provides a comprehensive exploration of the area’s rich cultural heritage. Visitors to the museum can delve into the stories of a diverse range of historical figures and communities, including Native Americans, explorers, fur trappers, pioneers of overland trails, railroad workers, coal miners, cowboys, sheepherders, homesteaders, business people, trona miners, and oil and gas workers. The museum’s extensive collection includes thousands of artifacts, a vast historical photograph collection, and a wealth of local history research materials. Through its exhibits and educational programs, the Sweetwater County Museum serves as a vital informational and cultural resource, dedicated to preserving and interpreting the complex history of southwestern Wyoming for both children and adults.
