About Fort Laramie

Recall the epic days of the frontier West at Fort Laramie. From 1834 to 1890 the forts on this site were important centers of trade, diplomacy, and warfare on the northern Plains. Trappers, fur traders, missionaries, overland emigrants, Pony Express riders, stage drivers, cowboys, homesteaders, soldiers and Plain Indians passed this way.
Fort Laramie was originally established as a private fur trading fort in 1834. It witnessed the entire sweeping saga of America’s western expansion and Indian resistance to encroachment on their territories. You will not want to miss the chance to visit this historical place!
